Mr. Hopper’s Grading Policy.
IAW with the Emerald Coast Middle School Grading Policy, ALL short answer questions will be answered in complete sentences or points will be deducted from the response.
You will earn your grade in the following manner.
Homework/Classwork: 10%
Quizzes/Minor Projects: 30%
Major Tests/Special Projects/Biophilia: 60%.
Special Projects: There will be 3 possibly 4 Special Individual Science Presentations, one per quarter. They will be due at the end of each nine week period. You will have plenty of advance notice and guidance for these. There will be many Project Based Learning (PBL) events throughout the year. Each of these will be graded in accordance with the specific rubrics for each project.
Extra Credit Projects: There will be none, if you do your work the first time, there is no need for it!!! There will be one exception, the ECMS Science Fair. If anyone wishes to participate in the Science Fair, extra credit can be earned to the full extent allowed by the district (4%). Anyone wishing to participate MUST see me prior to beginning the project for approval and during the project process to ensure your Science Fair Project is in accordance with the District standards. Failure to do will result in denial of extra credit.
Homework/Notebooks: This is the easiest part of your grade, DO IT!
I will grade homework/notebooks in the following manner:
0: Not accomplished
10% Notebook in order
20% Vocabulary Word list finished
0-70% Percentage of Text Book Complete
Notice that the grade is given for EFFORT shown, as well as being organized for your lessons. The idea behind homework is to reinforce the current day’s lesson or to prepare you for the next day’s not always whether or not you have the correct answer. Still, just placing an answer in the book without reading the question is unacceptable.
Late work: I will accept late work for up to three days with a -10 for each day you are late. After three days, I will not accept work unless special arrangements have been made.
